Comic-Con news round-up

Good Monday morning to ya! Here’s a look at all of the latest big news to come out of Comic-Con San Diego, that mecca of all things geek and fandom, which takes place this year July 23-27th. (And of course PopCultureGeek will be there, with daily coverage.)

TVWeek reports that Fox is upping its ante for [...]

Quantum of Solace teaser trailer

Moviefone has posted the teaser trailer for Daniel Craig’s second outing as James Bond, in Quantum of Solace. Directed by Marc Forster, the film picks up right where Casino Royale left off, with Bond out for vengeance against the terrorist organization that blackmailed his lady love, Vesper Lynd, and who he holds responsible for her [...]

Weekend Bits 6/29/08

Hellboy II just keeps looking better and better with each new trailer they release. On the other hand, this is something like the fourth one… I worry that they’re in danger of revealing too much, and leaving no surprises for the movie.
According to writer Mark Millar, Wanted 2 is already in the works.
Doug Jones, aka [...]

Comics Star Michael Turner Dead at 37

According to a post on Aspen Comics’ message board, the company’s founder and general comic book artist superstar, Michael Turner, succumbed to his 8-year battle with cancer last night. He was 37 years old.
From the post by Aspen’s Vince Hernandez:
Hello all,
Unfortunately it’s with great sadness that I must inform everyone that Michael Turner tragically passed [...]

An Inhuman Love of Lego

I know I risk losing some of my geek credentials by making this admission, but I’m not much of a toy collector. I redeem myself with this, though: I love Legos in an inhuman kind of way.
I grew up on Legos, and I’m not ashamed to admit that as I’ve grown into adulthood, I never [...]

Flick Face-Off: Wall-E vs Wanted

For the weekend of 6/27/08 - What’s with all of the recent alliteration between Flick Face-Off contenders these past few weeks? Get Smart vs Love Guru, Hulk vs the Happening, and now Wall-E vs Wanted. Methinks someone planned this…
Anyway, this week will belong to Wall-E, easily. C’mon… it’s Pixar! [...]

They Must Be Stopped: Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer

For the inaugural entry in what hope to make an ongoing series, I gleefully nominate writer/director team Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. You don’t know their names, but I guarantee you know their work, and wish you didn’t.
Their credit list: All four Scary Movies (2000-2006), Date Movie (2006), Epic Movie (2007), Meet the Spartans (2008), [...]

No Paramount at Comic-Con ‘08!?!? - UPDATED

You’ve got to be freaking kidding me, Paramount.
Variety reports that Paramount will have virtually no presence at Comic-Con this year, most notably with no preview-and-star-laden mega panel in Hall H. According to a spokesperson, “the timing was off this year.”
Is that so? What timing are they referring to, exactly? CCI happens the same week every [...]

1st Look at Whedon’s Dr. Horrible

Joss Whedon has released a teaser trailer for his pet project, the upcoming Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, starring Neal Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, and Felicia Day. It looks positively fantastic, sure to appeal to all the Whedonites out there. It’s sort of a musical film that’s being released on the Internet in the near future.
In [...]

Spielberg has 39 Clues

Scholastic Inc. is prepping to launch a major new project that defines the very term “multimedia.” And if you haven’t heard of it yet, you’re about to hear a lot about it, because a movie’s being made of the project by some guy named Spielberg.
It’s called The 39 Clues, and it’s planned as a series [...]

Game Trailers round-up

Here’s a look at the latest video game trailers, including new looks at Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Tom Clancy’s EndWar, Call of Duty: World At War, Guitar Hero World Tour, Prince of Persia, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Arrested Development Movie to Shoot in 2009

In case you haven’t heard, possibly the greatest television comedy of the 21st century is coming to a theater near you in 2009. Yes, I realize that Jason Bateman has been saying this since last year, pretty much anytime he’s in front of cameras touting a new project (this time while promoting the [...]

A Dutch film website has some snapshots of promotional images taken from Cinema Expo, including this sweet X-Files: I Want To Believe movie poster, several new G.I. Joe images such as the Snake Eyes pic you see below, and much more. Click this link to see all of them, full sized.

Harry Potter prequel

This one almost slipped past us… A couple of weeks ago, Waterstone’s posted a handwritten, 800-word prequel of the Harry Potter books, contributed for a charity auction by J.K. Rowling herself. Rowling describes the untitled short story as “from the prequel I am not working on.” The story relates a heretofore unknown episode amongst the [...]
