Frank Darabont’s legendary, unused script for the fourth Indiana Jones movie (in his draft it’s titled Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods) has found its way online. It’s rumored that both Spielberg and Ford were ready to sign off on this version of the story, but George Lucas was the one who vetoed it, for unknown reasons. Draw your own conclusions on that one by downloading the script here.
You may be surprised at just how much is the same in this script versus Crystal Skull — many of the key plot points are all there. Most notably missing is the “Mutt Williams” character, who makes no appearance in this script at all, even though Marion Ravenwood returns as a main character.
