Flick Face-Off: Wall-E vs Wanted

For the weekend of 6/27/08 - What’s with all of the recent alliteration between Flick Face-Off contenders these past few weeks? Get Smart vs Love Guru, Hulk vs the Happening, and now Wall-E vs Wanted. Methinks someone planned this…

Anyway, this week will belong to Wall-E, easily. C’mon… it’s Pixar! And you don’t have to be a little kid to want to watch this hard working little cousin to R2-D2 go on the biggest adventure of his 700 year life. Wanted’s R rating and ultra-violent high concept story could turn away some moviegoers. Of course, an ass-kicking Angelina Jolie will certainly fill more than a few seats. And, of course, I’m going to see both of them, as I have a thing for silly robots and bullet-curving curvy assassins (I also have free passes). Wall-E will pull about $70 million (although I hope more) while Wanted will earn a decent $30 million.

I think I’m getting better at this. While Get Smart was certainly the obvious choice in quality between last week’s top 2 film releases, there was no telling how soundly the Love Guru would be beat (only $15 million). I guessed a $40 million box office draw for Get Smart and it pulled $39, so yay me!

I loved Wall E. It did much more for me than Wanted. I did get to see Wanted in Chicago, though, so it was neat to see the train on screen and ride one around the same time.
