NBC Announces BIG Comic-Con Plans

robin July 1, 2008 0

It’s starting to look like 2008 might become known as “The Year Television Took Over Comic-Con.”

NBC has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging all comers by announcing its going-all-out plans for Comic-Con, which includes representation from more than eleven TV shows across the NBC/Universal family of networks. Let’s break it down:

  • The NBC/Universal booth on the show floor will showcase Heroes, The Office, and 30 Rock, with merchandise available for attendees from all their favorite NBC shows.
  • The Scifi booth will give away promotional items from Battlestar Galactica and Ghost Hunters.
  • A Eureka-branded ice cream truck will run a dedicated route, giving away free ice cream to promote the show’s third season.
  • Scifi and Entertainment Weekly will host a big party filled with stars on Saturday night.
  • The newly redesigned KITT from Knight Rider “makes its debut” (does that mean they’re not using the Mustang Shelby anymore?) directly adjacent to the convention center at a time and date yet to be revealed. Fans will be able to interact with the car (will Val Kilmer be hiding behind a screen somewhere to answer fans live?) while series stars appear live.
  • Both NBC.com and Scifi.com will provide fans with tons of live coverage of Comic-Con and giveaways, a first for NBC/Universal.

NBC and Scifi’s schedule includes panels featuring the stars from Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, Knight Rider, Chuck, Kings, Stargate Atlantis, Ghost Hunters, Eureka, The Office, My Own Worst Enemy, and Virtuality (which is airing on Fox but produced by Universal).

Can anyone possibly top such a jam-packed lineup? I don’t think there’s another network or production company with as many properties to showcase as NBC/Universal, so it seems doubtful. Will NBC/Scifi be the buzz of the convention this year? Stay tuned.
