Star Trek: The Experience, the multi-million dollar attraction at the Las Vegas Hilton, is closing due to declining ticket sales. Its last open day will be September 1, 2008.

I got to visit ST:TE about eight years ago, well before the “Borg 4D” expansion was added. The Next Generation was still crazy popular, Deep Space Nine and Voyager were on the air, and Trek was an exciting universe. This was, obviously, long before the fan fatigue that set in somewhere before or after Enterprise, depending on who you talk to. I spent a few hours there, beaming on board the Enterprise, wandering through (and shopping at) the DS9 Promenade, and generally soaking in the Trek atmosphere. Hearing that the attraction is closing makes me oddly nostalgic. (I wonder what I did with my pictures from that trip…)

Several years later, my wife and I spent our honeymoon in Las Vegas, but as she had no interest in Trek, we didn’t visit the Hilton. Now I kinda wish we had.
