Could the wait for the remainder of Battlestar Galactica’s final season BE any more painful? Here’s a little something to help get your fix: that rumored new TV movie is a go. It will be written by Jane Espenson and directed by none other than Edward James Olmos. It’s rumored to be a bit of Cylon-centric, never before seen backstory, and adding fuel to those rumors is word that all of the major Cylon stars — with the major exception of the very busy Tricia Helfer — have been offered deals for the movie, including Dean Stockwell (Cavill), Grace Park (Sharon), Michael Trucco (Anders), Aaron Douglas (Tyrol), and Michael Hogan (Tigh). Katee Sackhoff has also been approached, as well as some unnamed others. Interesting mix, no? Wonder what the story will be about…- BSG fans will also want to check out the always-enlightening blog of Darth Mojo, a visual effects guru who works on the show. His latest entry provides a stellar inside look at the making of that stunning final tracking shot from “Revelations,” the Season 4 mid-season finale. Beware of major spoilers if you haven’t seen the episode. There’s also some great stuff highlighting the VFX used to create the fleet in space, including some cool previs videos! (Fans of the original series will especially enjoy this part of the post.)
- Cinematical provides the lowdown on where you can find some of the first images to emerge from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Can’t wait for this one… sounds like they’re really going to get it right.
- Comic fans still lamenting the death of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, should check out Comic Book Resources’ exclusive preview of Captain America: White, the latest miniseries entry in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s “Colors” series, which provide new, more personal takes on the earliest days of some of Marvel’s biggest names.
- We’ve been doing a lot of talking lately at PCG about Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, because as every geek knows, Whedon can do no wrong. A fun little insight into Dr. Horrible’s arch-nemesis, Captain Hammer (played by Nathan Fillion in the film), is provided in the form of a brief comic book prequel to the film, which has been posted to Dark Horse Comics on MySpace. It’s completely free to read, no strings attached, and it’s written by Joss’ brother, Zack, with art by Eric Canete.
- A first teaser trailer for The Mutant Chronicles, a live action film based on the popular role-playing game and comic book, has been posted to the website of actor Thomas Jane. The trailer provides no content warning, so I’ll provide it here: it’s not recommended for the squeemish. The Mutant Chronicles stars Jane, Ron Perlman, John Malkovich, and a large cast of unique characters. It has yet to be scheduled for a release date.
