If this isn’t geek news, I don’t know what is. Merriam-Webster has added the word “fanboy” to its Collegiate Dictionary, officially making it a real part of the English language. Rejoice, fanboys, rejoice — our descriptive term is no longer slang! We are legitimate!

Wait. Unless…

Unless this just means we’ll now be insulted… in a more grammatically correct way.

If you’re curious, Merriam-Webster defines “fanboy” as “a boy who is an enthusiastic devotee (as of comics or movies).” I suppose it’s as concise a definition as any, though I expect the legions of fangirls out there feel slighted. It’s discrimination, I tell you! What about all the Slave Leias and Wonder Women and Lara Crofts out there, huh, Merriam-Webster? Do their feelings matter less to you? Huh? Huh??!!

Fangirl should equally exist, I think. Plus I seem to be the only fangirl posting here! :)
