Comic-Con ‘08: Exhibit Hall Video

Sunday at Comic-Con this year, I took the time to do something I’d always wanted to do, but never gotten around to. (I’d never seen anyone else do this, either.) I took my video camera, hoisted it up high over my head with my tripod, and walked the full length of the exhibit hall.
In case you didn’t know, the Comic-Con exhibit hall is all but legendary. In size, it’s bigger than 11 football fields placed side-by-side. The word “cavernous” barely does it justice.
All told, the full walk took me 15 minutes, and that was weaving through the Con’s heavy foot traffic. Below are two videos presenting the same trip. The first one plays the walk at 3x speed, lasting about 5 minutes, set to Beethoven’s “Turkish March.” The second is full speed, complete with on-site audio. Personally, I like the second one better because it provides the full experience — it’s not just the sights but the sounds of Comic-Con, literally letting you see and hear what it’s like to be there.
Be on the look out for lots of costumes (including a fox, Elastic Man, and one inexplicably nearly naked dude). And if you attended Comic-Con on Sunday, keep an eye out for yourself! Hundreds, if not thousands, of people can be seen in this video, so you never know…
