I’m going to be the idiot geek here and confess that before I read the story in Entertainment Weekly, I had no idea what Twilight was. Sue me. I’m not a woman. But I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and sit through the Comic-Con Twilight panel to see what all the excitement was about.

Let me make one thing clear: Like KISS, I love it loud. Really loud. And when it comes to panels at Comic-Con, I want my sneak previews at top volume, like last year when they premiered the kickass Iron Man footage. When they played the Twilight movie clip (of a fight scene near the end of the movie that was surprisingly more violent than I expected), it felt like my ears were being torn from my head. I saw more than a few people clutching the sides of their heads and doubling over in pain (eyes never breaking their hungry gaze from the giant screens). I felt it long after I left the hall. Of course, my ears were already bleeding from the piercing, mindbending screams of the mostly female 6500+ people packed into the hall. (It was rumored that single-day Thursday tickets were going for more than $150 on eBay since the schedule was only announced after the days had sold out. Who was buying these tickets? Twilight fans, of course!)

So I wrote all of that to say that I’m a big baby and a couple thousand fanatical screaming girls kicked my ass. But it’s okay. That Robert Pattinson and his giant untamed eyebrows are oh so dreamy. (sorry, I just had to say something about that man’s supernatural grooming) In all seriousness, I’m completely jealous of Stephenie Meyer’s success. I’ve never read one of the books, but she seems like a real genuine person who wrote about something she loved and she’s made an almost JK Rowling living with it. Go Stephenie! (do I have to be a 30something mom to become a billionaire writer? because I’ll do it! don’t make me!)

Enjoy the video (all 12ish minutes of it). It’s mostly shows the introduction of the actors to the shrieks of thousands of high strung females… and then a few questions toward the end punctuated with more screams, reaching their highest pitch whenever Robert Pattinson becomes the focus. Remove all dogs from the vicinity and moderate your computer speaker volume accordingly. Here comes the cast of Twilight

Observation: This is probably the highest concentration of women ever gathered at any Comic-Con panel, party, or… well, anything in its 39 year history. While the dudes are thumbing through the quarter boxes or struggling through the exhibition hall crowds for free GI Joe t-shirts, 90% of the women at Comic-Con were here in Hall H. And so was I. I’m no dummy.

Thanks for posting that - the screams got to be a bit much so I kind of skipped around. I think it’s perfectly cast w/ a great director, it should be a fun movie! Robert Pattinson is probably ruined to play any other role than Hot Immortal Guy after this, but hopefully he takes it well. BTW, You get major points for putting up with all that screaming.
