Star Wars: The Clone Wars director Dave Filoni revealed in an interview with MTV’s Movie Blog why his film won’t have the traditional Star Wars opening prologue crawl. “Because we originally developed this as a TV series,” he said, “George [Lucas] felt that the crawl wasn’t going to be effective as a way to introduce the audience to the TV series.”
Lucas wanted to introduce the saga more visually so they elected to use a newsreel opening with a 1940s-esque radio announcer instead. We’ll see how effective this change is when the film opens on August 15.
