Yahoo Movie News states that the next Harry Potter film has been delayed from its original November 2008 date to July 17th, 2009. *groan*
It’s studio, Warner Bros, says that it’s still reeling from the writers’ strike from earlier this year and made the move in order to bolster its summer schedule. This pits it squarely against Universal‘s adaptation of the classic kids tv series Land of the Lost, starring Will Ferrell. It’s still early, so that gives Land of the Lost some time to get out of the wizards’ way if it likes… Because no matter how anticipated LotL may be, it and anything near Harry Potter will get trampled at the box office, especially after making us wait so long. I just don’t suggest moving LotL to August. GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra reigns that month…
The studio also says this will have no effect on the release date of the two-part final film adaptation in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is still scheduled for November 2010 (yeah, like we’ll trust you now, Warner Bros! Stop teasing us!).
