Director David Cronenberg has announced that he’ll be bringing his seminal sci-fi classic The Fly to the stage as an opera. This “classical re-imagining” of the film features the first opera score from Howard Shore, the man behind the film’s soundtrack. The costume designer and creature creator from the film will also be assisting with the production. Placido Domingo will be conducting the orchestra.
The Fly will open the upcoming season of the Los Angeles Opera in September. One only hopes that they’ll seek out Jeff Goldblum’s input and blessing on the project. Without his blessing, I predict an epic fail.
