As a DVD extras junkie, I was fairly disheartened to hear that the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of Iron Man would contain no commentary. A commentary with two individuals as entertaining and engaging as Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau would have been a welcome addition to the disc. Sadly, though, we won’t be getting one until the obligatory “Super Awesome Collectors Special Edition” that the studio will use to milk even more money out of us.

Downey Jr. and Favreau did participate in a live commentary at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica, CA this weekend for the film. FilmCrunch.com has a recap of the event with a few juicy tidbits the pair mentioned during the commentary. Here’s one of them:

“Throughout the movie, the actor-turned-director pointed out and confirmed various scenes which hinted at both The Avengers movie (visible S.H.I.E.L.D. logos) and the sequel (he noted that the terrorist cell in the movie is merely one branch of Mandarin’s group).”

The post’s author mentioned that Downey Jr. was more entertaining during the commentary than his character was in the film which he didn’t think was possible. Too bad those buying the DVD/Blu-ray can’t join in the fun.
