The controversial subject of in-game advertisement looks to once again be in the public eye. Last week, GamerPoltics.com mentioned that Barack Obama campaign advertisements have began appearing in EA’s Burnout: Paradise. Today GigaOMH managed to snag an official statement from an EA rep on the aforementioned ads. Here it is:
I can confirm that the Obama campaign has paid for in-game advertising in Burnout. Like most television, radio and print outlets, we accept advertising from credible political candidates. Like political spots on the television networks, these ads do not reflect the political policies of EA or the opinions of its development teams.
So, what do you all think? In a way I believe in-game advertising can add a bit of realism to games. I’d much rather have my character walk past a bench advertising Crest toothpaste than Superbrite Clean Toothpaste. I am a bit apprehensive about political adveritsments, though.
