Although he’s best known as the mysterious Mr Roarke in the 1970s tv series Fantasy Island, geeks will always remember Ricardo Montalban mostly for his iconic performance as Khan Noonian Singh in the original Star Trek series, a role he reprised in the 2nd (and possibly the best) Star Trek film, The Wrath of Khan.
He began his acting career in the 1940s as a “Latin Lover”, became a notable Chrysler Cordoba pitchman (“soft Corinthian leather…”) in the 70s, and most recently appeared in the Spy Kids sequels. In recent years, he founded Nosotros, a Hollywood-based non-profit organization for the support of Latino actors.
No cause of death was given. He will be greatly missed by his fans, especially here at PopCultureGeek.
