A few nights ago I got to see Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog in a way I never imagined when the web miniseries debuted last year: I saw it on the big screen at the Arclight Cinerama Dome on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. The sold out room enthusiastically sang along (and some quietly to themselves), but never so loud as to overpower the incredible sound in that classic yet modern technology enhanced theater. After the screening was over, TV Guide.com‘s Matt Roush introduced the cast and creators of the award winning series: Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion (Captain Hammer), Felicia Day (Penny), Zack Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen (becoming Mrs Jed Whedon today as I write this). Dr Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris, couldn’t be there that night as he was out of the country, but his absense just gave Nathan Fillion free reign to make fun of him without any immediate consequences.
Among the information shared:
- They talk about making a sequel all the time, especially while shooting Dollhouse, but there is currently nothing concrete at the moment. It would require everyone the freedom from work that they had during the writers’ strike.
- Even if they can’t make a sequel on the same scale as the original, they’re considering all mediums… movies, Broadway, maybe even puppets! (not really)
- They’ve already made a few web comics with Dark Horse Comics on Myspace, featuring Captain Hammer, Moist, and coming soon… Penny! Maybe even one with Dr Horrible (go figure).
Lots more can be seen and heard on the videos I captured at the event. Yes, the quality is crap. I dropped my camera a few weeks ago and it’s had nothing but problems ever since. But it’s the audio that matters, so sit back, close your eyes, and listen to the bits I was able to capture. Or you could go to the official Paley Center site to catch some better quality video from that night. Here’s hoping they decide to package up the whole evening on DVD as they have with other PaleyFest events (Buffy, Lost, etc). In the meantime, here’s my clips…
