You know that when Tim Burton reworks a known, traditional concept for film, it’s going to get freaky. He did it with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he’s done it with Sweeney Todd, and you have to admit his two Batman films were more than a little weird. Well, Disney has put him at the helm of a new Alice in Wonderland movie, leaning more closely to the story’s more surreal, dark origins, as created by Lewis Carroll. And of course, he’s bringing Johnny Depp and his wife Helena Bonham Carter with him as the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen respectively. And if you take a peek at USA Today’s first look at the new film, you’ll see that Anne Hathaway is a part of the cast as well, playing the eccentric White Queen. Nineteen year old Australian actress Mia Wasikowska takes on the title role of Alice as she slips into what will be a 3D wonderland by the time it hits theaters on March 5, 2010.
