Long Beach Comic-Con 2009 Bloom County panel with Berkeley Breathed

berkeleybreathed If you missed the 1st annual Long Beach Comic-Con, you missed getting a chance to meet one of the most talented strippers of our time… ummm, by that I mean comic strip creator. Berkeley Breathed is the man behind Bloom County and everyone’s favorite neurotic cartoon penguin Opus. He spoke to a room full of devoted fans on how and where he gets his ideas (and how we get ideas for creative works in general) as well as giving fans a peek at a lot of his non-comic strip work. From children’s books to his first novel to a movie adaptation of one of his stories, Berkeley shared a lot about his creative process, the controversy and censorship drama found in the pages of your daily newspaper comics page, and his many other projects beyond stripping. *ahem*

Pretty much all of the panel is included below. Sorry about the darkness of the video. He had requested low lights to show his slides. But that’s fine because it’s what he has to say and the stories that he tells that matter.

PART 1 – Where Ideas Come From

PART 2 – Meeting the Reagans

PART 3 – Unfunny Ideas

PART 4

PART 5 – His Childrens’ Books

PART 6 – Faeries Suck!
