First Look Image of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man

Columbia Pictures releases the first image of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. Today Columbia Pictures released the first image of the new Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) in the updated Spider-Man costume! Looks like my fears of Garfield’s giant stack of wavy hair creating an oddly shaped masked Spider-head was unfounded (I’m only guessing, since this shot doesn’t have him wearing the mask). He looks good. And you’ll notice quite a few changes to the costume from the original Tobey Maguire edition. It’s darker, sleeker, with what appears to be a whole new texture to the fabric. Different glove design, spider emblem… something tells me the mask could contain a number interesting variations itself. Hopefully we get a good long look at it in action at San Diego Comic-Con this summer.

If you’re not sure who Andrew Garfield is, check out The Social Network, where he has no small part as Mark Zuckerberg’s pal and Facebook co-founder, Eduardo Saverin. Considering his performance in that critically-acclaimed film, I’m eager to see what he can do with the new Spider-Man film, whatever they end up calling it.

Below is a bigger version of the image for your perusal… Notice the scratches on his face and chest… makes me think that the villain in this movie will be a bit feral… animalistic… That makes me immediately think of the Lizard, Kraven the Hunter (and whatever animals he has at his disposal), and the Black Cat. Can you think of any other Spider-foe that might inflict that kind of damage on good ol’ Petey Parker?

By the way, I could also throw in a blurry, scanned copy of the first picture of Chris Evans in his Captain America costume today, but a better shot will be appearing on the web by tomorrow on EW.com. If you can’t wait, I’m sure a quick search of Twitter will pull up something…

UPDATE: Here’s the official Chris Evans as Captain America pic directly from Entertainment Weekly, appearing in the latest issue.
