If you’re in the mood to flash back to the cartoons from the far off late 90s to early 2000s, Shout! Factory has you covered once again. They just released the Nickelodeon series, the Wild Thornberrys, complete season 1 4-disc set on DVD. This show boasted an odd collection of notable voice actors, including Tim Curry, Lacey Chabert, and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I doubt any of them had anything else in common beyond this eclectic cartoon series about a family of wilderness adventurers that included a savage boy, a jaded teenage girl, and her wide-eyed younger sister, Eliza (the main character), who has the ability to talk to the wide variety of animals they meet on their worldwide travels. Not sure why. It’s mystical, obviously, but the brief expository opening credits sequence doesn’t go into much detail on the whys and wherefores on why a young girl can talk to her monkey. And although it’s not addressed, I’m guessing the viewers also have this ability as well, since we can also hear the animals speak. I don’t remember being given magical powers from a jungle shaman (as one would expect the source of such powers to be)…
So if you have the urge to flash back to your childhood (if you had a childhood around 1998 to 2004), the Wild Thornberrys season 1 on DVD is a must have.
