Luis Calderon is back with his latest midnight screening review in his %$ing Living After Midnight video series. This time around: X-Men First Class!
The X-Men are back, directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Snatch, Layer Cake) and produced by original X-Men director Bryan Singer. Starring James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as the younger versions of the friends and future leaders of mutantkind (Professor X and Magneto, respectively), the film explores the origins of the X-Men during the turbulent Cold War era of the 1960s, giving the beloved characters we’ve seen in previous films their proper origin stories and grounds them as real people, not just walking special effects. If you’re a comic book geek, don’t expect the same origins to be found in this film. But that’s okay. Vaughn gives us a great story with great characters portrayed by the Oscar winners of the future (my two cents: if Daniel Craig ever wants to give up being James Bond, Michael Fassbender should be handed the keys to the Aston Martin IMMEDIATELY!).
But I’ll let Luis fill you in on what he thought of the film, as this is his review series, after all. WARNING to the faint of heart: This video contains SPOILERS and lots of strong language. The X-Men First Class trailer follows below.
