Anybody knows that more often than not, when it comes to summer blockbuster season, the trailers often outshine the feature presentation. Why? Because it’s got all the good stuff wrapped up tight in a neat little 2 and a half minute package. A good editor never allows there be a dip in the excitement (an even better one doesn’t give away the entire story either). Two hour movies don’t have that luxury. The ones with actual stories tend to have 3 acts and it’s all too easy to let the film get dragged into expositional quicksand or a dull, thuddingly cacophanic action sequence that goes nowhere.
There was a time when trailers weren’t as slick and demographically poised as they are now. Some just had a big concept, a little budget, and two minutes to tell their tale. The trailer is an editor’s nightmare and dream project all in one. And more than a few of them inspired the most beloved film makers of our day.
Trailers from Hell Vol 2 gathers those filmmakers and creative folks to share their thoughts on what made some epic cult classic films so popular to those chosen few who got to see them back in the day. With insights from Joe Dante (creator of the website that birthed this DVD series), Guillermo Del Toro, John Landis, Roger Corman, and more, Trailers from Hell Vol 2 gives movie-lovers a peek into world of sneak peeks from the people who know that world inside-out. The DVD also includes the complete Little Shop of Horrors, by Roger Corman and starring Jack Nicholson in one of his first roles.
Watch the trailers with and without commentary from these film icons and for the first time in anamorphic widescreen. Trailers include: Donovan’s Brain, Little Shop of Horrors, The Invisible Ghost, Fire Maidens from Outer Space, Flesh Gordon, Deep Red, Gorgo!, Ski Troop Attack and many more!
