LIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 Virgin Review It’s over. The epic Harry Potter octilogy (is that a word?) has come to a close with the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Thousands of midnight screenings around the world were sold out in anticipation of the final film, so Luis and I weren’t alone when we took showed up at the Del Amo AMC theater in Torrance, CA.

I have to admit, I’m a long-time Harry Potter fan. I’ve read all the books and watched all of the movies, even though I started later than most. When people started making a big deal about Harry Potter, I figured I’d give it a shot by picking up the books. I instantly became a fan. And while the movies only gave us the core of what the intricately detailed books gave us, I enjoyed them as well. And I’ll come right out now and say I LOVED the final film. It was an amazing capper to a truly epic film saga. And I will see it again… probably without as many distracting girls in school girl outfits all around me.

Luis, however, is completely the opposite. He’s never read a Harry Potter book. He’s never seen a Harry Potter movie. At first I was aghast at the idea of him going to see the final film without having any knowledge or understanding of what was going on and who there characters were. It would likely result in a very skewed and dissatisfied review simply because you can’t fully enjoy the final film of this series without understanding what has come before. These latter movies, especially one with a Part 2 in its title, can’t stand alone. But he’s the Living After Midnight Guy, so who could stop him? Plus, I realized that no review would ever sway a long-time Harry Potter fan from seeing the film. It’s like a Star Wars fan not seeing a new Star Wars film. Love or hate the prequels, there’s no chance that a Star Wars fan would miss seeing a new film in the theaters. And, if anything, there’s a chance that Luis’s review, if positive, could sway some people who have preconceived notions about the books and films (that they’re only for kids) into checking them out.

In the end, this video review is an experiment to see what would happen if you took a person who loves movies, but has no understanding of the Harry Potter universe, and threw him into the final chapter of a massive story. What would he say? Could he still enjoy the film without knowing what the hell is going on? Well, Luis is about to tell us in his latest entry into his own video saga, Living After Midnight. And not only does he provide you with his thoughts on the movie, he also has some fun chatting with fans in line as they wait for the midnight screening. It’s worth checking out just for that.

I’d normally warn you about spoilers, but if you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ve already seen the movie. If you’re not a fan, you probably don’t care…
