I have to admit something. I’ve been a bad geek. I’ve only got around to seeing Captain America: the First Avenger today. Yes, I actually didn’t contribute to the opening week box office of a superhero movie. I know, it’s unthinkable. I am shamed.
But I have my reasons. I tried to see it for free at San Diego Comic-Con a few weeks ago when it premiered. I was able to acquire one of the elusive (so I thought) tickets the night before as I waited in line for Preview Night. I showed up at 8am for the 11am screening and discovered that I was about 1000th in line. Not an exaggeration. They had actually handed out about 3000 tickets. Of course, they were only admitting about 900 people total into the 3 free screenings. By the time they told us there was no chance of us getting in, the size of the line had doubled and snaked throughout the upper levels of the entire outdoor mall (Horton Plaza).
After that, I made two other attempts to see it during Comic-Con, but there was always something else going on more important to me. That said, in the process of my post-Comic-Con recovery I finally found 2 hours in which to see the film. And I liked it. A lot. I’m dying to see the Avengers.
So what did our normally verbose Red Hot Reviewer have to say? (He also missed seeing it while at Comic-Con, hence the lateness of this “review”.) Was the movie worth the wait?
