I’ve been waiting for this movie for longer than I can remember. I still have the original posters they gave out at San Diego Comic-Con 2009. Co-written by Buffy and Angel geniuses Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard (Drew also directed), this film promises to tell the unconventional story of what happens when a bunch of drunk, horny young people wander into the woods to party, but instead more than likely get killed. But who does the killing and why? And will there be a musical number? Those are at least 2 things that the trailer does not give away.
It’s horror and comedy in the style these guys know well. However, I have to say that in an effort to prevent the film from being pigeonholed as yet another schlocky slasher film, they seem to have given away a lot of what’s behind the woodsy horrors within these 3 highly anticipated minutes. I HATE when trailers give away the entire story of the film. HATE HATE HATE IT!!! And while I’m sure there’s more to this than what we’ve seen so far, I am bothered that I can figure out more than I should at this point. And I also hate that I can kind of tell who lives and who dies to a certain degree.
This, of course, doesn’t mean that I won’t see it when it comes out. Oh no, I’m there. I’m just now thinking I have to put myself into a media blackout until I actually get to see this thing just so I can enjoy it fresh, with only faded memories from this day to tickle the corners of my brain.
Well, whatever your thoughts on spoilery trailers are, give this one a whirl and see what you think. Will it live up to the nearly forgotten hype? Or did you have no idea that this thing existed? Either way, check it out…
