Pop Culture Geek Podcast #7 – Something Startling Happens

Happy new year! I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to start this new year off with this podcast. I recently ran into an old hometown friend, Todd Klick, here in LA and found out that he had written a book called Something Startling Happens: The 120 Story Beats Every Writer Needs to Know. I immediately knew we had to bring him in to talk about writing movies, making movies, and just loving movies in general. This podcast is a must-listen for aspiring writers (isn’t everyone in LA?) and movie-lovers alike because we tackle his history as a writer as well as discuss the common thread found in nearly every successful film made, regardless of genre, creative inspiration, or production size.

I highly recommend Todd’s book and the other books he mentions as tools for becoming a better, more consistent screenwriter. He’s an enthusiastic storyteller, with more than his share of tales to tell, and we were lucky enough capture a few of the good ones in this conversation. You can bet we’ll have him back again.
