We took a week off and it’s all my fault. As any of the tech company reps I talked to at the Consumer Electronics Show last week could tell you, I barely had a voice. Spending the first 3 weeks of 2012 sick left little time or ability to create a podcast, but I’m glad to say we’re back! However, one side effect that will be apparent on this podcast is my deeper, breathier, but still scratchier voice. So whether you’re into hearing about all the fun gadgets, tech, and the odd collection of celebrities that choked the aisles at CES or if you want to listen in on our take-aways from the whole SOPA and PIPA battle that was killed dead last week, I’m sure you’ll find such conversation to be at least .025% sexier than usual.
CES 2012 – In case you didn’t know, the Consumer Electronics Show is the place where all new technology takes its first steps into the big bad bloodthirsty world of tech. It’s also where all the big corporations go to show off all of their latest innovations. It’s also where Justin Bieber goes to play with a dancing robot and way too many guys in drab matching suits get into the hottest clubs without paying a cover or for any of their drinks. Held every January, CES in Las Vegas is the center of the tech universe for one week, where one can interact with everything from the latest in car audio to the slimmest notebooks to the latest in robot vacuums. In the first half of this podcast, I go over the geeky things that caught my eye, the tech trends that dominated the show, and the insane parties and celebrity appearances that made this nerdfest just a little bit cooler (not always). As a bonus, you will find a little giveaway tucked into this podcast. I brought back some goodies from the event and will be giving some of it out to a few of our listeners, which should be music to your ears…
SOPA/PIPA – In the event you were living under a Minecraft rock these past few weeks, you know that between the major entertainment corporations and more than a few deluded and clueless politicians, they attempted to push through some poorly thought out legislation that would limit the basic freedoms we take for granted on the internet and in real life. Little did they know that we geeks like to use the internet for more than just porn collecting and sharing pictures of adorable, fuzzy cats. We understood what the bills were really about and those that didn’t soon found out and joined us in rallying against them until they were no more. But is it really over? That’s what Scott and I discuss in the second half of this week’s podcast. What was it all about and what can we expect next?
