USA Today has the first pictures of the Playmates toys 3 3/4 inch Star Trek movie action figures coming this spring/summer. Figures come with portions of the Enterprise bridge that can be combined to make a complete playset. Kirk, of course, comes with the centerpiece… the captain’s chair. There’s also a transporter room that comes with Scotty and lots of life-sized hand held props like phasers and communicators. Check out the exclusive pictures here.

I haven’t owned a Star Trek toy since the 70s. I had the old Megos with the playset and everything. I think I still have my Bones figure. I’m tempted to pick these up, but I’m not a fan of the square-shouldered sculpts of the figures pictured. I hope these are just prototypes and not the final products. Of course, it took Hasbro a few tries before they moved beyond the oddly proportioned “buff” Star Wars figures that were released almost 14 years ago. I love the look of this Trek film. I’m hoping the toys live up to it. I may have to get that communicator regardless..

Although it sounded legitimate, today FilmSchoolRejects.com reports that the story was merely a rumor.

The original cast did reunite to record dialog for an upcoming video game. The game’s script looks to be in cannon with the film series and was written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis. Outside of it, no other reunions are currently planned.

Good Monday morning to ya! Here’s a look at all of the latest big news to come out of Comic-Con San Diego, that mecca of all things geek and fandom, which takes place this year July 23-27th. (And of course PopCultureGeek will be there, with daily coverage.)

TVWeek reports that Fox is upping its ante for Comic-Con, sending nine TV shows to the even this year. In addition to expected titles like Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, U.S. remake Life on Mars (based on the U.K. hit), Fox juggernauts 24 and The Simpsons, and other animated fare like Futurama, Family Guy, and American Dad, you’ll also find panels for less obvious choices like Prison Break and Bones. (Oddly, J.J. Abrams’ Fringe goes unmentioned, yet we already know a panel is planned.) Fox is also increasing its presence on the show floor. Fox Atomic’s usual booth has been handed over to Fox’s television department, so expect a major overhaul there, with lots of talent signings and giveaways.

For those still hoping to buy tickets and attend all four days of the con with those sold-out four-day passes, eBay has become a scalping treasure trove. Yet Comic-Con warns, buyer beware: passes resold to third parties likely will not be honored. When checking in at the San Diego Convention Center, the name on your ID must match the name on your pass, or you don’t get in.

On a related note, the NC Times just posted an article on the difficulties of finding a hotel room in San Diego County during Comic-Con. Apparently, it’s the most difficult time of the year to get a room throughout the entire county and beyond. The article is appropriately titled, “During Comic-Con, No Room at the Inn.”

And finally, to cheer you up after all the gloom and doom about housing and ticketing, io9 offers their picks for 8 Toys You Can’t Leave Comic-Con Without.

I know I risk losing some of my geek credentials by making this admission, but I’m not much of a toy collector. I redeem myself with this, though: I love Legos in an inhuman kind of way.

I grew up on Legos, and I’m not ashamed to admit that as I’ve grown into adulthood, I never lost my desire to collect and build. Lego Star Wars is my favorite (though this Lego Tumbler set from The Dark Knight is calling to me); I could collect those sets for the rest of my life. (And how sweet is the new Death Star diorama set?)

If you, like me, adore the original little plastic bricks, you owe it to yourself to check out Gizmodo’s Gizmodo Goes to Lego feature, which is currently ongoing. It seems that one of their regular contributors — a Lego fan after my own heart — has made a special trip to Lego’s headquarters in Denmark, where he’s been granted access to secret vaults, factory floors, giant on-site constructions, and every other forbidden shangri-la that until now has existed only in our dreams.

The best entry in the series thus far is the one containing a video showing the library vault filled with rolling bookshelves that house every Lego set ever sold — and none of them have ever been opened! Can you imagine? It could be the closest thing to Heaven this side of Krispy Kreme.
